They are mostly served as dinner, with other light meals to complement them. But what do you really know about bread rolls? Here is everything you should know about bread rolls, and how to make them.
What Are the Ingredients for Making Bread Rolls?
The ingredients for making bread rolls include; four cups of bread flour (with about a handful of kneading), four tablespoons of melted butter, one tablespoon of yeast, one tablespoon of salt, one cup of warm milk, half cup of sugar, two tablespoons of sugar (this is for proofing the yeast), and finally, two eggs (you should add one more for egg wash).
How to Make Bread Rolls
Dissolve the Yeast
Dissolve the yeast, with two tablespoons of sugar in the warm milk. Ensure you stir evenly, and leave it for about five minutes.
Whisk the Egg
Get a small bowl then whisk the eggs and melted butter together. Set it aside.
Mix the Flour, Salt, and Sugar
Get a large bowl, and mix the flour, salt, and sugar. You can make a well at the center of mixed flour, and add the proofed yeast. Also, add the egg and butter, then mix until you are sure the dough is well-formed.
Knead the Dough
It’s time to transfer the dough to a floured surface (make sure it’s light), after which you knead until it becomes soft. Also, knead until it becomes smooth and elastic. If you are using your hand to do it, let it be for about ten minutes. However, if you are using a mixer, make it five to seven minutes.
When you. ‘ve done all these, transfer the knead to an oiled bowl. Make sure the bowl is large enough, and ensure you smear some oil on the surface of the dough. This way, the dough will be prevented from forming skin.
Cover the Dough
You can now cover the dough with a lid, or even a plastic wrap. Leave it to rise in a warm place for about an hour, or probably till the size is doubled.
Deflate the Dough
When you deflate the dough, ensure you turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. You can now divide the dough into sixteen equal pieces, and begin to form them into round balls. For mini rolls, twenty balls are enough. However, if you want to make large rolls, twelve balls are more than enough.
The next thing to do after this is to place the rolls on lightly greased and floured baking sheets, at least, two inches apart. Make sure you cover it up with a clean, damp cloth, and allow it to rise. If you want it to double in volume, then leave it for close to thirty minutes, or a little more.
Whisk the Egg
It’s time to make the egg wash. Usually, you do this by whisking the egg together, with one tablespoon of water.
Brush the Surface of The Bread and Bake
Make sure you brush the surface of the bread with the egg wash, before placing it in a preheated oven. You can bake for about ten to fifteen minutes, or even till it becomes golden brown.
When you are sure it is ready, remove the bread rolls from the oven, and rub the surface with some butter. Do this while the rolls are still very hot.
Leave to cool and Enjoy!
If you are not a fan of hot dough, allow it to cool for a few minutes, and enjoy!
